A Message From The Angel . . .

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Greetings from 80's Dance Party! The Angel is back with this week's 80'S NIGHT TRIVIA QUESTION! Your chance to show off your knowledge of 80's pop culture, and find out about upcoming 80's Dance Party events! This week's question appears below, followed by the rules of how to play the game. The answer to the Trivia Question for July 22nd (The single was an MTV era one hit wonder released in 1983, and was named after the vowels in the english alphabet ("AEIOU, Sometimes Y"). What was the name of the band?) was Ebn Ozn.

Some other great 80's (or related) events the Angel is very fond of:

"Wasteland" w/ DJ Medusa & DJ Strange (www.medusapromotions.com)
Friday, July 30th @ Jimmy Valentine's Lonely Hearts Club 1103 Bladensburg Road, NE (around the corner from the H street club corridor)

"Liberation Dance Party" This party is what current alternative and new wave dance music is all about. The Angel's favorite.

"It's No Good" Depeche Mode Night w? DJ Medusa & DJ Strange (www.medusapromotions.com)

Please Note: The Angel/80's Dance Party is not affiliated with any of these events or promoters, nor will The Angel be spinning at them. I respect the DJ's and promoters involved with these parties, and I recommend them based on their dedication to the scene. Either way, keep going out, and support your favorite DJ's, bands, and promoters!

80's Trivia Question for Thursday, July 29th, 2010:

Don't want to jinx it, but based on the weather over the last two days, Washingtonians might be enjoying a break from the heat this week. 88º doesn't often come across as a relief, but after highs of 105º it's a nice alternative. No doubt the summer of 2010 will be remembered for the heat wave, as it's apparently been the most consistently hot summer in this city since 1980. And there's plenty of songs that fit the moment. Power Station's "Some Like It Hot," Asia's "Heat Of The Moment," Glen Fry's "The Heat Is On," Billy Idol's "Hot In The City," Buster Poindexter's "Hot Hot Hot," and Bananarama's "Cruel Summer." "Heat Wave" is the name of the old Irving Berlin classic (from "There's No Business Like Show Business"), the monster 60's hit by Martha & the Vandellas (later covered by The Jam), and the 70's disco band responsible for "The Groove Line" & "Boogie Nights." It's also the name of a fabulous track from the 1984 debut album by an offbeat trio from Glassgow. The album also included the singles "Stay" and the eternally brilliant "Tinseltown In The Rain." When it came out way back then, it was as refreshing as the summer rainstorm that suddenly breaks the heat and calls forth the breezes. So what was the name of the band responsible for these songs, as well as the coolest take on the notion of a "Heatwave" to be released back in the 80's?(Tonight's 80's Dance Party at Chief Ike's is NO COVER, so you won't need to be a trivia wiz to get in for free, but having the answer still scores a free round for the first group to offer it up!)

If you're the first person with the right answer, I'll buy you a round!
Determination of the correct answer shall be the responsibility of The Angel, and all judgements are final.
Now remember, the trick is to get to 80's Dance Party early. Doors open at 9 pm, and you must be there before 11 pm to win!
